Aciona Wind Farms

AIRA was asked by a United States based wind farm blade manufacturer to assist in some warranty repairs on blades supplied to Gunniing Wind Farm and Waubra wind Farm.

The task involved setting up rope access systems for their Irata trained operatives, supervising their rope access crews and assisting with getting materials to the blade, preperation of the blades and the repair and balancing.

AIRA set up a remote rescue system that allowed for an injured operative to be on the ground in under three minutes. A simple hauling system was put in place for deliver back and forth of repair materials and tools. AIRA techncians also assisted with the repairs during period of higher wind conditions. Having the experience and confidence in our equipment we were able to stay in place and continue working in winds of up to 12m/s when other technicians had given up in far less wind strength.

All works were completed within the alloted time frame for the repair and most importantly, no injuries or dangerous occurences occured during our supervision of the works. 

Wind energy remains a focus for AIRA and we continue to work in both training for wind farm operatives and carrying out specialised repair techniques on blades throughout Australia.
