Layher Scaffold and Rope Access

AIRA was asked to carry out an emergency make safe on the side of a building in Sydney's CBD.

The areas of render that had detached were substantial in size and weight. The real problem was the potential for these pieces to not only fall into an adjacent property garden area but also, busy Pitt street below.

AIRA's solution was to build a suspended box scaffold over the side of the building to totally encapsulate the problem areas during the make safe in order to prevent any large pieces of render from dropping into the aforementioned areas.

AIRA took their idea to Layher Scaffold. Layher redesigned the box to suit their aluminium modular components and supplied the scaffold elements to AIRA. Using rope access and AIRA riggers and scaffolders, we were able to build a light weight structure that could sustain a total combined weight of 500kg.

Once built and lowered into place, the render was safely removed and flashings reinstated. This was carried out in four areas down the length of eleven floors.

The scaffold was dismantled at the bottom and removed from site. The total turnaround from site mobilisation to demobilisation was 3 days and this included the removal of 210kgs of render from the building. This would usually not even be considered using traditional swing stages. The safe removal, savings to the client and the quick turnaround is a testament to both AIRA's multitude of in house skills and Layhers help with design, supply
