Economiser Duct Welding

During a recent power station shutdown, AIRA identified areas of corrosion on structural support beams within the economiser duct.

Two experienced AIRA technicians undertook the required weld tests. Having successfully passed the test the technicians with the help of additional AIRA crew, cleaned all ash from the area, prepped all areas and stitch weld new support channels into place.

In addition to these works AIRA was also engaged in standby rescue services for the NDT team to carry out inspections on the super heater tubes. As these works were running behind time, AIRA technician’s took on some of the NDT testing of the tubing. This greatly advanced the works and AIRA technicians identified three areas of significant wall thickness loss.

Using advanced rope access techniques, rescue provisioning and experienced rope access workers, AIRA helped identify areas of essential maintenance work, carried out or assisted with the works and helped to provide a safe, on time and on budget shutdown of this piece of NSW major infrastructure.
